Counselling is a very personal and confidential form of help. SALSA counsellors abide by the BACP Ethical Framework (accessible on www.bacp.co.uk) and our agency's Code of Ethics, which means that your personal information will not be disclosed to anyone outside the service without your permission. To maintain an ethical and professional service, counsellors are required to keep written records. Personal information on these records is kept to a minimum, and only your counsellor, and their supervisor, will have full access to these records, which will be held securely with your counsellor. You are entitled to see your records by prior appointment through the service managers.
However, on rare occasions counsellors are required by law to disclose certain information to appropriate others. This may happen if your counsellor is concerned about serious mental and physical risk to yourself or others; especially if the risk involves children. If this is necessary, your counsellor will try and involve you in the decision making process about any action taken.
The first meeting will be used as an assessment session. This will enable your counsellor to assess the likelihood of you benefiting from counselling at this particular time. It is also a chance for you to discuss any questions or concerns you may have regarding the counselling process and decide whether it is for you. If you do wish to continue with counselling you will be expected to attend face-to-face counselling sessions, lasting between 50-60 minutes, on a regular weekly basis. The period of time needed for counselling will be negotiated between yourself and your counsellor.
Payment: You will be asked to pay for your counselling sessions and this will be discussed at the first assessment session. There is a set fee of £25 for the initial appointment. You will be informed of the currently hourly rate when you make your first appointment. We are not able to provide free counselling sessions, however, if you feel that you may have difficulty meeting the current full charge, please discuss this with the assessment counsellor and be prepared to provide evidence of your inability to make full payments. In order to maintain an effective service to all users we ask clients who require further sessions to pay for subsequent appointments one week in advance.
If your fees are being met by an employer or other benefactor please bring documentation (letter of authority, invoice etc), which may be copied and kept by the service. If paid-for sessions have to be cancelled by the service and cannot be appropriately rearranged, any advance payment will be reimbursed by cheque.
If, for any reason, you are unable to attend, you will be expected to contact us on 01204 524522 or if you prefer via email at salsacentre@aol.com. We reserve the right to charge for missed appointments,
if we have not received 24 hour notice before the session. If you fail to attend two meetings without notice, it will be assumed that you no longer wish to continue with counselling at this time.
It is extremely important to us that you receive a confidential, professional, ethical and effective service. If you have any comments about SALSA Therapy, they can be discussed in confidence with your counsellor, the counselling service manager or a SALSA director.
