SALSA is an acronym, which stands for Social and Life Skills Alliance. We are a social enterprise initiative, created to allow specially selected practitioners and organisations to work together - providing educational and therapeutic services in an ethical and socially responsible manner to individuals, third sector and community based organisations, private and public sector agencies.
SALSA is managed and co-ordinated by Elisabeth Long, who co-founded the company in 2006 with Sandra Gent. SALSA was the
result of a collective of people recognizing the ever increasing need of others to develop personally and professionally, and yet at the same time being aware that there is a general reduction in the variety of channels in which this can be achieved. The founders and practitioners are professionally qualified and experienced in adult learning and a variety of psychotherapeutic approaches, and firmly believe that both training and effective psychological support are part of the same spectrum when it comes to individuals discovering how to improve their lives and mental well being.
SALSA does not take a 'one size fits all' approach when working with individuals or groups. We feel it is important to treat everyone with integrity, respect and an appreciation that, although they may be seeking our guidance, they are ultimately responsible for their own choices.
Since our formation in 2006 we have been asked many times why we chose to call ourselves SALSA. Do we associate ourselves with a spicy sauce? Well maybe - we like to think that we add an extra ingredient to people's lives through our services! Or do we make a link between what we do and Latin dance moves? We think that our life journeys go through many twists and turns, and that is why we have adopted the strap line 'explore the rhythm of life'.
However real the reason we are SALSA is because Social and Life Skills Alliance is a bit of a mouthful, and more importantly we just like the name! When we began to think about what we could call ourselves we became aware that many training and therapy agencies had adopted quite serious and deep sounding names. Although we can be both serious and deep, we also feel life is to be enjoyed and savoured. At SALSA we will help you do both!
